KIT REVIEW: Regatta KIT REVIEW - Regatta Highton Waterproof Overtrousers
Reviewed by Sarah
These Regatta overtrousers are the perfect piece of kit to have in your backpack. Easy to slip on, these should keep you dry even in the heaviest downpours!
FEATURES
The trousers have two zip pockets and are easy to pop on over walking boots thanks to the Velcro ankle strips. The waistband is elasticated and the Velcro and popper fastening at the waist make it easy to put these on in a hurry when the rain hits.
SIZE AND FIT
The trousers were a 3XL (size 22-24), which according to the size chart on the website is a 43-45 in waist and a 52-54 in hip, although the tag on the trousers said the waist was 44-46 inches. The inside leg was 29 in. According to my measurements, which are a 47 in waist and a 53 in hip – I have a short, hourglass shape with a large bum and tum - these should have fit well. Unfortunately, the trousers did keep slipping down at the waist, which means short, hourglass bodies like mine would possibly be better sizing down. The good news is that the length of the trousers was perfect and I didn’t trip over them!
PERFORMANCE
I tested these during my regional Every Body Outdoors walks. During one downpour at the very end of the walk, the trousers performed well. When I took them off, water hadn’t soaked through to my leggings underneath, as it has done with overtrousers in the past. They were easy to walk in, comfortable and had plenty of stretch going up hills during my walk.
Aside from the waist sizing issue, these are a great piece of kit. They're very useful to have on hand when the weather isn't behaving itself and offer plenty of room to manoeuvre. All in all, I'd recommend these to anyone doing serious walking, although perhaps sizing down to make sure the trousers don't fall down!
